14.00 A Detailed Look at REACH & its Impact on the Storage Industry
REACH is the new Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & Restriction of Chemicals. It entered into force on 1st June 2007. It streamlines & improves the former legislative framework on chemicals of the European Union (EU).
The main aims of REACH are to improve the protection of human health & the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, the promotion of alternative test methods, the free circulation of substances on the internal market & enhancing competitiveness & innovation. REACH makes industry responsible for assessing & managing the risks posed by chemicals & providing appropriate safety information to their users
However, there are still many questions surrounding REACH & just how this legislation will be applied to different facets of the industry, & exactly how this will impact equipment & service suppliers to this market. This interactive afternoon session will enable producers, manufacturers & suppliers to hear from the experts in this field, & to ensure that their own questions are answered.
14.00 Introduction from Session Chair
Despite the growing number of experts in REACH in various corners of the industry, the answer to the overriding question of “what is the impact on the Tank Storage industry” remains elusive. Perhaps this is caused by little understanding outside the business sector about what Tank Storage actually consists of?
The Federation of European Tank Storage Associations (FETSA), has been digging into this Regulation from the specific vantage point of the independent tank storage operator & assessing what the impact might be.
HJP Standaar, Secretary General, FETSA (Federation of European Tank Storage Associations)
