Are the sensors batteries going to be solar charged in the future?<\/strong><\/p>

At the moment our customers are expecting between 5 and 10 years battery life, before the sensors require any maintenance, this is not something that we provide based on a small solar panel alone. If in the future however, we can work with different components, such as …. that would make it possible to replace batteries with solar cells, then we would of course like to bring some of the work that we have carried out in the past to bear and blend these capabilities.<\/p>

In many of our systems the sensors will have a role to play in the safety status. E.g is a valve is <\/strong>open or closed, I should have the current status. Can this be resolved without impacting battery life <\/strong>significantly?<\/strong><\/p>

Yes, the sensors send two kinds of messages,<\/p>

a) a health message, communicating the battery status every 12 or 6 hours, depending on your configuration;<\/p>

b) messages at every status change to indicate whether the status is open or closed. Based on this (up to 6 changes \/ day) we can get a battery lifetime of 5 years<\/p>

What I have understood from IOT sensors is taht they typically sent their status out based on time <\/strong>and\/or change of status.<\/strong><\/p>

Yes, that’s correct. The sensors send two kinds of messages,<\/p>

a) a health message, communicating the battery status every 12 or 6 hours, depending on your configuration;<\/p>

b) messages at every status change to indicate whether the status is open or closed. This approach will keep the data packages small and will allow us to us LoRaWAN in the best possible way.<\/p>

IoT is still in its infancy, why should this be the next big thing in terms of safety and efficiency?<\/strong><\/p>

LoRaWAN is not necessarily in its infancy but it is certainly not yet mainstream in the Industrial sectors. The fact that Gartner, however is expecting it to become mainstream within less than two years’ time, is already a good outlook for the technology. With the large players in the oil and gas industry, such as Chevron, Total and Shell rolling out LoRaWAN at their international sites, we can see that these organisations trust LoRaWAN as a technology approach to be the backbone for the digital acceleration.<\/p>
