href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/taxation_customs\/green-taxation-0\/revision-energy-taxation-directive_en#:~:text=On%2014%20July%202021%2C%20the%20Commission%20adopted%20a,that%20currently%20encourage%20the%20use%20of%20fossil%20fuels.\">Energy Taxation Directive<\/a>\u00a0in the context of the Fit for 55 Package, in order to ensure that tax rates for energy products can support decarbonisation targets.<\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">As demonstrated by the<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/clima\/eu-action\/climate-strategies-targets\/2050-long-term-strategy_en\">\u00a0EU decarbonisation strategy for 2050<\/a>, energy storage technologies are playing a valuable role in the transition to a low-carbon energy system. This role is only set to increase with upward revision of the 2030 decarbonisation targets.
