Boeing and Clear Sky, an investment company focused on aviation sustainability, have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the development of sustainable solutions for the aviation industry. Their collaboration will initially focus on supporting and advancing Firefly Green Fuels’ innovative technology, aimed at increasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in the UK. This partnership represents a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of air travel and promoting environmentally friendly practices within the sector.
Firefly Green Fuels is pioneering the use of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) to transform sewage waste into sustainable aviation fuel. This cutting-edge process involves applying heat and high pressure to convert waste feedstock into biocrude oil and biochar, a byproduct that can be used as a fertilizer. By leveraging this technology, Boeing and Clear Sky aim to make SAF more widely available and cost-effective, contributing to the aviation industry’s broader goals of sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
