Qantas Group, Sydney Airport, Ampol, and members of the Qantas Sustainable Aviation Fuel Coalition have secured Australia’s largest single commercial delivery of sustainable aviation fuel, marking a major step forward in the effort to decarbonise air travel.
The shipment includes nearly 2 million litres of unblended sustainable aviation fuel, imported from Malaysia and delivered to Ampol’s Kurnell refinery in Sydney. It will be blended with conventional jet fuel before undergoing testing, certification, and delivery to Sydney Airport, the country’s busiest air hub.
Blended at a ratio of approximately 18 percent, the fuel has the potential to power up to 900 narrowbody flights between Sydney and Auckland. This is expected to reduce aircraft carbon emissions by around 3,400 tonnes.
This milestone reflects growing collaboration across the aviation sector to support a more sustainable future for Australian air travel.
