Shell has revealed a new long-term offtake deal with Green Sky Capital, securing the full output of a planned sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in Egypt. The agreement provides the commercial confidence needed for investors to advance development of what is set to become the country’s first commercial-scale SAF plant.
Targeted to come online by late 2027, the project is expected to deliver up to 145,000 tonnes of SAF per year, along with bionaphtha and biopropane. Once operational, the plant could help cut as much as 500,000 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually.
According to Geoff Mansfield, VP of Low Carbon Fuels at Shell Trading, locking in the plant’s entire production will strengthen Shell’s global low-carbon fuels network and further support aviation decarbonisation efforts.
Shell currently supplies SAF to more than 80 locations across 18 countries, and since 2024 has been one of the world’s largest traders and suppliers of SAF—driven by long-term producer partnerships, strong airline relationships, and strategic investments in terminal and airport logistics.
