Corteva and bp have revealed the creation of Etlas, a jointly owned company split evenly between the two firms. The new venture will focus on generating crop-based oils from plants such as canola, mustard, and sunflower, which will be used as raw materials for lower-carbon fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (RD). Etlas will combine Corteva’s long-standing leadership in seed innovation with bp’s experience in fuel processing and distribution for the transportation sector.
The company plans to reach an annual output of around one million tonnes of feedstock by the mid-2030s, enough to yield more than 800,000 tonnes of biofuel. Production is expected to start in 2027, with materials supplied to both existing refineries through co-processing and to standalone biofuel production facilities.
