Hamburg’s Authority for Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture (BUKEA) has approved plans for MB Energy to develop and run a new ammonia import terminal. Pending a final investment decision (FID), the facility is set to be constructed at the existing Blumensand tank terminal within the Port of Hamburg, Germany. It is anticipated to become the country’s first major ammonia import hub, supporting both future energy security and broader economic transition efforts.
The terminal is intended to handle the import and distribution of ammonia—an important carrier for hydrogen, a vital industrial feedstock, and a potential low-carbon fuel for maritime transport.
