Shell and Vopak have agreed a deal where the latter will supply crucial feedstock for Shell’s biorefinery in Rotterdam from its Vlaardingen terminal.
Fuels including sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel will be produced at the 820,000 tonnes per annum biorefinery which is located at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park, Rotterdam. This will be produced from waste including waste animal fat, used cooking oil, and other industrial and agricultural residual products.
The Shell refinery will be one of the largest SAF-production facilities located in Europe, and Vopak’s feedstock operation will also be one of the biggest in the world.
Vopak is currently building 16 new tanks at its Vlaardingen site which have a total capacity of 64,000 m3.
