Schroeder Valves – Automatic Recirculation Valve (ARV)
The Schroeder Automatic Recirculation Valve (ARV) protects centrifugal pumps from low-flow damage, dry running, overheating, and cavitation. It operates fully mechanically and requires no electrical power, sensors, or external controls.
Core Function
Installed on the pump discharge, the ARV ensures the required minimum flow at all times.
When system demand drops below the safe operating range, the valve automatically opens a bypass and recirculates excess flow back to a tank or suction line. When normal flow returns, the bypass closes.
This prevents:
Excess internal heat
Cavitation and erosion
Seal and bearing damage
Premature pump failure
The pump remains within its defined operating limits without external intervention.
Key Characteristics
Self-acting hydraulic operation
Integrated check and recirculation function
Fast, stable response to flow changes
Compact, robust construction
Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature service
Material options such as carbon steel or stainless steel allow adaptation to various process media.
Typical Applications
The ARV is used where pump protection is critical and flow conditions fluctuate, including:
Power generation and district heating systems
Chemical and petrochemical plants
Water treatment facilities
Industrial processes with variable demand
In these environments, maintaining minimum flow is essential for operational reliability and equipment longevity.
As part of the portfolio of Schroeder Valves, the Automatic Recirculation Valve provides a reliable, maintenance-friendly solution for continuous centrifugal pump protection.
