AMS Barging adds methanol-ready tanker Felicitas to fleet
Bulk Distributor
AMS Barging has christened Felicitas, a 135-metre diesel-electric tanker, in Rotterdam. Liv and Julie, daughters of co-owner Igor Jansen, named the vessel. Its arrival brings the company’s fleet to 17 vessels.
Designed by RensenDriessen Shipbuilding and fitted out by Den Breejen Shipyard, Felicitas can carry approximately 9,000 m³ of cargo. She is equipped for conventional fuels and designed to allow future modifications for methanol bunkering.
The tanker has completed her maiden commercial voyage and is now operating on the spot market. Her Stage V-compliant engines, diesel-electric propulsion and Z-drives support efficient operation and manoeuvrability.
“No one knows exactly what the fuel mix will look like in ten years’ time,” said AMS Barging commercial director Martin van Veen. “We see methanol as one of the important alternatives.”
