What was the Cassandra project?

Cassandra is a newly developed artificial intelligence solution created by TTT to act as an advanced early warning system for tank terminal and industrial operations. The tool is designed to assess functionality across operations, benchmark competency levels, evaluate managerial performance and identify hidden risk exposure before incidents occur.
 
At its core, Cassandra supports organisations in understanding whether they are operating with sufficient information, capability and control to achieve safe and effective performance. Rather than relying solely on regulation or retrospective reporting, the solution helps users detect weaknesses early and take preventive action. TTT also provides a dedicated training programme so that clients can apply Cassandra effectively and translate insights into measurable operational improvements.
 

What challenge did Cassandra address?

TTT identified a critical issue through empirical testing: many tank terminals may be operating with insufficient information and below the minimum competency threshold required for safe and effective performance. The benchmark established by TTT indicates that at least 85% competency is needed to operate outside the danger zone.
 
However, testing showed that average competency levels before training were only 37%, indicating a serious gap between operational demands and actual capability. Even after training, average results improved to 76%, which demonstrates clear progress but also underlines the scale of the challenge. This gap suggests that organisations may be exposed to avoidable HSEQ risks, reduced efficiency and weaker decision-making when they lack the right information and competency base. What solution did TTT implement?

TTT implemented Cassandra as an AI-based intelligence and assessment solution that measures functionality, predicts risk and supports operational improvement across the tank storage industry.
 
The solution enables organisations to:
  • test overall operational functionality, HSEQ performance and profitability;
  • benchmark individual and organisational competency levels;
  • assess managerial performance and readiness;
  • identify risk exposure before problems escalate;
  • reduce disorder caused by information shortages and improve decision quality.
 
A core principle behind Cassandra is that poor information creates operational disorder, while better information creates greater order, efficiency and resilience. TTT explains this through a functionality model informed by thermodynamic logic.
At lower competency levels, such as 70%, more effort is lost to error correction, emergency response, rework and disruption. This means more energy is spent managing avoidable issues rather than productive operations. At higher competency levels, such as 85%, more energy is directed towards productive work, reducing waste and improving efficiency.
 
Similarly, lower-functioning systems generate higher “entropy” — in other words, more disorder caused by information deficits, mistakes and poor decisions. By contrast, higher-functioning systems operate with greater order, lower risk exposure and more usable organisational capacity. Cassandra is designed to detect and quantify these conditions so operators can act earlier and more effectively.

What made this solution different?

Cassandra stands out because it is not positioned as a generic AI assistant, but as a specialised intelligence tool grounded in the laws of physics, biology and cybernetics. According to TTT, these principles provide the foundation for natural functionality and system survival, allowing Cassandra to model operational conditions in a way that is directly relevant to real-world industrial environments.
 
A particularly distinctive feature is the development of the Viability Limit, which enables users to calculate their own risk exposure and better understand whether their operations are functioning within a safe and sustainable range. This gives Cassandra a practical decision-support role, rather than simply providing passive analysis.
 
The combination of predictive AI, functionality-based modelling, measurable competency benchmarking and client training makes the solution different from conventional compliance tools or standard risk management platforms.
 

What impact did Cassandra achieve?

Cassandra has already produced measurable insight into competency gaps and the importance of information-driven operations. TTT’s empirical testing found that average competency levels increased from 37% before training to 76% after training, demonstrating substantial improvement through targeted intervention.
 
Beyond training outcomes, Cassandra provides analytical reporting that helps organisations identify potential gains in HSEQ performance, operational excellence and profitability. The solution is designed to make invisible weaknesses visible, allowing operators to address risk earlier, improve decision-making and reduce losses linked to information shortages and operational disorder.
 

What were the key highlights and recognition?

One of the most significant highlights of the project has been the successful training of more than 1,000 people to operate on the basis of information and functionality, rather than relying only on regulation or compliance. This represents a meaningful shift in mindset and practice, especially in safety-critical environments where proactive understanding can make a major difference.
 
Another key highlight is the creation of a unique service offering that combines AI, operational science and practical training into a single solution. Cassandra is not only designed to predict problems, but also to help organisations build the capability needed to prevent them.
 

What is next for this technology?

TTT sees strong international potential for Cassandra and believes the technology could be applied on a much broader scale across the energy and industrial sectors. Discussions are already under way with the Energy Institute to raise awareness of the tool and its potential contribution to safer, more effective operations.
 
The next stage is likely to focus on wider adoption, deeper industry engagement and broader recognition of the role early warning intelligence can play in operational performance. If scaled successfully, Cassandra could help shape a more predictive, information-led approach to safety and excellence across global tank storage and energy operations.
