Aurex Constructors has completed the demolition and replacement of two carbon steel storage tanks at an oil storage facility in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. 

The project involved constructing two new API 650-compliant base oil storage tanks in a live terminal environment: Tank 5 with a capacity of 2,331 m³ and Tank 7 with a capacity of 1,479 m³. Aurex said detailed pre-commissioning and handover planning helped ensure a smooth transition from construction to commissioning and product introduction. 

The company also recorded 168,000 injury-free hours during the project. 

Aurex said the work required careful coordination to ensure terminal operations and emergency access routes remained fully functional throughout construction. The company added that close collaboration with the customer supported decision-making on permits, access and sequencing, helping to minimise disruption while maintaining progress. 

According to Aurex, the project also showed how investment in specialist expertise and advanced technologies can improve both delivery efficiency and safety performance in highly regulated operating environments.
