Sinopec Guangzhou Petrochemical on Tuesday (2 February) said it has started trialing its new 50,000 tonne oil terminal and the facility has entered the production and commission stage.
Construction of the terminal started in November 2019 and its completion is five months ahead of schedule despite restrictions placed by Covid-19 measures.
To mark the start of the trial run, oil tanker WANXINYOU 8 discharged fuel oil at the terminal.
The terminal is a key component in Guangzhou Petrochemical Huade Company’s bid to establish a fuel oil distribution center in Southern China, noted Sinopec.
Sinopec said the project will ease current logistical restrictions on its maritime fuel delivery system in Southern China and also strengthen the company’s competitiveness in the bonded bunker fuel market.
According to Beijing-based commodity market information provider JLC, Guangzhou Petrochemical ranked sixth among Chinese refineries producing low-sulphur bunker fuel oil in 2020 (500,000 mt).
