Thomas Koop.

Customer Support Manager, CEA Systems.

Thomas joined CEA Systems in February 2018 with a passion for optimizing business processes. Having a background in Industrial Engineering and Management provided him with a perfect basis to apply his knowledge and experience in an organization like CEA Systems.

Thomas has applied himself to finding out what bottlenecks tank terminals experience and dove into asset data management like a fish in the proverbial data lake.
His ability to emerge into organizations’ challenges and think outside the box in combination with his extensive knowledge of asset data management has proven very useful in delivering successful solutions in the most complex situations.

Your questions answered.

What does it take to get all the data such as 3D-models, P&IDs and others into your Plant4D software?

Plant4D saves customers a lot of time and ensures that customers have the right data to make quality decisions. However, this is only possible if Plant4D is filled with the right data to begin with. So step 1 is not just filling Plant4D with data, but also making sure that the data is up-to-date and complete. The time it takes to implement Plant4D therefore highly depends on the current quality and completeness of the asset data.

Which data does CEA Systems secure in your software solution, Plant4D?

Plant4D offers customers the opportunity to secure all their asset data. Any data that can be linked to an individual asset or a group of assets can be secured in Plant4D.

What is the underlying IT technology of your solution Plant4D?

Our solution Plant4D works with an open database model that uses SQL as the underlying technology. The open database model is secured on the site of the customer so that it is aligned with the customer’s security requirements. This also means that the customer is in total control of their data and allows for endless connections with other databases and software solutions.

How does Plant4D (CEA Systems software solution) differ from a digital twin solution?

We manage primary data in Plant4D that you can use to create a digital twin.  This is different than other softwares that create digital twins based on the as-built at that moment, not taking into consideration that the supporting data has to be maintained. Therefore the digital twin is the “digital twin” at that moment in time, but could be outdated 1 hour later. With Plant4D you can keep the data updated and always have the latest version to create the digital twin from.

How can you organize these assets properly?

Using Plant4D, customers can organize their assets intuitively based on classifications, an asset breakdown structure and their relative positions in the 3D environment and 2D environment (P&IDs). Plant4D therefore allows users to organize their assets in multiple ways at the same time. This allows different types of users to access the same data in ways that works best for them. Even though users can apply multiple ways to organize their assets at the same time, they will always be working with one version of the truth. There are no duplicate values in Plant4D, just multiple roads leading to the same destination.

Would this also require that all data has geographical information attached to it? (like GIS/BIM)

Our software offers customers the possibility to link asset data to GIS and BIM solutions, but does not require this information. Plant4D can be used as a standalone application to manage asset data, but can be enriched with data from other sources like GIS and BIM solutions.

What makes Plant4D different than other standard (DMS) Systems?

Plant4D allows customers to manage their asset data and make endless connections. Data in Plant4D is not limited to texts and numbers, but can also include all the necessary files and documents that can be linked to assets and need to be managed. Other (DMS) systems do not necessarily focus on how the documents can be accessed. In Plant4D, documents that are linked to assets can be accessed using one of the many ways in which assets are structured or using the integrated file structure. This ensures that users will never lose a file as long as they know how to find the asset the file is related to, for which Plant4D offers three different options (1D, 2D & 3D).
