Vopak Solar Park Eemshaven opens

Vopak Solar Park Eemshaven, a joint venture between Vopak, Groningen Seaports, and funds managed by Whitehelm Capital, has opened in Groningen in the Netherlands.

The 25 MW facility has been constructed on a 19 ha site next to Vopak Terminal Eemshaven. It will supply energy equivalent to the use of 8,000 Dutch households to the Dutch grid. The green energy certificates for the site have largely been bought by local companies within Groningen Seaports and Vopak itself.

Ekwadraat from Leeuwarden carried out the design and construction management, while Equans from Roden managed to whole project. The Municipality of Het Hogeland and the Province of Groningen were closely involved in the development of the project. STEK acted as legal advisor and Voltiq acted as financial advisor. Vopak says that the solar parks was delivered safely despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
