Blackburn Chemicals opens a new solar-powered plant

Blackburn Chemicals Limited, a global leader in foam control solutions, has opened a new cutting-edge production facility in Blackburn, Lancashire. Representing a £14 million self-funded investment, the site is now recognised as the most advanced powder defoamer plant in the world.

This major expansion significantly boosts the company’s production capacity, enabling output to increase from 2,000 to 7,000 tonnes annually. The new facility will also generate economic benefits for the local area through job creation and professional development, while strengthening the UK’s position in global manufacturing.

Equipped with 545 solar panels generating around 400,000 kilowatt hours of clean energy each year, the solar-powered site is designed with sustainability and innovation in mind. It features a fully automated production system, supported by on-site chemists to accelerate time-to-market for new products and respond swiftly to industry needs.
