By Hans Bobeldijk, CEO, UAB-Online
UAB-Online was the silver winner of the Digital Transformation Solution category.
What was the main challenge or problem you were trying to solve?
We wanted to implement digitalisation in a way that genuinely enhances efficiency and safety across the full maritime chain. Traditional terminal operations rely heavily on manual processes, fragmented communication and email overload. This not only slows down port calls and increases administrative workload, but also introduces avoidable risks around safety, compliance and predictable, on‑time operations.
What solution did you implement?
UAB-Online is a cloud‑based SaaS platform that digitalises and optimises terminal operations for liquid bulk storage. Used by terminals in Europe, Asia and the United States, it replaces manual processes with automated workflows, improving communication and operational efficiency.
The platform streamlines pre‑arrival procedures, automates compliance checks, and enhances real‑time visibility to ensure smoother operations and regulatory compliance. It integrates seamlessly with existing terminal systems, reducing administrative workload, minimising delays, and supporting sustainability goals by optimising resource allocation and reducing emissions.
What makes this project or solution different?
UAB-Online stands out by offering a complete, end‑to‑end chain platform for liquid bulk operations, connecting terminals, vessels, agents, surveyors and traders in one shared workflow instead of isolated point solutions. It digitalises the full pre‑arrival‑to‑departure process with real‑time coordination, centralised vessel files, and streamlined document, safety and compliance handling.
The solution is proven at scale, with market leadership in the ARA region, a large active network and a high success rate. By lowering errors, email overload and port‑call delays, it improves safety, efficiency and predictability across the entire chain.
What measurable results have you achieved?
Operational efficiency: Administrative workload has been reduced by up to 50% through automated documentation. At Vesta Terminals, the pre‑arrival process has been streamlined, reducing vessel turnaround times, minimising idle time and increasing overall terminal throughput.
Communication and transparency: The platform enables seamless communication between terminal operators and vessel crews, giving all stakeholders access to synchronised, real‑time information. This has improved coordination, reduced miscommunication and contributed to more predictable operations.
What do you consider the biggest highlight of this project?
The biggest success has been implementing a solution that benefits the entire maritime chain – terminals, surveyors, traders, agents and vessels all gain from the same shared workflow and data.
As Kevin van Hees, operations manager at Vesta Terminals, explains:
“UAB-Online has streamlined our operations, improving efficiency, compliance and communication. The platform has reduced manual work, increased transparency and optimised turnaround times, making it an essential tool in our daily operations.”
