New Era Energy – Environmental Performance
New Era Energy was shortlisted in the Environmental Performance category at the Global Tank Storage Awards for its engineered tank restoration programme. By combining advanced inspection, specialist cleaning and high‑performance lining systems, the company helps operators turn ageing, high‑risk assets into compliant, high‑performing infrastructure while cutting costs and downtime.
What was the main challenge or problem you needed to solve?
The primary challenge was addressing ageing and deteriorating fuel storage assets that posed increasing risks around safety, compliance, environmental impact, and operational continuity. Many clients faced costly full tank replacements or ongoing maintenance issues, with limited visibility over internal tank condition. There was a clear need for a solution that could extend asset life, ensure regulatory compliance, and minimise disruption to operations, all while delivering a commercially viable alternative to full tank replacement.
What solution did you implement to address this challenge?
We implemented a comprehensive, engineered restoration solution combining advanced internal tank inspection, specialist cleaning, structural repair, and high-performance lining systems. This was supported by strict process control, certified materials, and experienced technicians operating to industry best practice. We also integrated detailed reporting, compliance documentation, and ongoing asset monitoring. Where required, we partnered with specialist providers to ensure safe waste handling and environmental protection, delivering a complete, end-to-end restoration programme tailored to each site’s operational needs.
What makes your solution different from standard approaches or competitors?
Our approach goes beyond standard tank cleaning or repair by delivering a fully engineered, lifecycle extension solution. We combine technical expertise, proven lining technologies, and rigorous quality assurance to achieve consistent, long-term performance. Unlike typical providers, we offer full transparency through detailed reporting and validation, enabling clients to clearly understand condition, risk, and value. The result is a safer, more reliable, and commercially superior alternative to tank replacement, delivered with minimal operational disruption.
What were your results?
The solution has consistently delivered significant cost savings, typically reducing capital expenditure by 50–70% compared to tank replacement. Operational downtime has been minimised by up to 60%, allowing sites to maintain continuity during works. Clients have achieved full regulatory compliance and improved environmental protection standards, while extending tank lifespan by 10–15 years. Additionally, improved visibility and reporting have enabled better financial forecasting and asset management, directly supporting margin improvement and long-term operational efficiency.
What do you consider the biggest success from this project?
The biggest success has been transforming problematic, high-risk assets into fully compliant, high-performing infrastructure without the need for costly replacement. Delivering this with minimal disruption to live operational environments has been a key differentiator. The project has not only improved safety and environmental outcomes but has also given clients confidence in the longevity and reliability of their storage assets. This balance of engineering excellence and commercial value is what truly sets the solution apart.
What are the next steps of future developments for this solution?
We see the future of tank restoration evolving towards data-led asset management, incorporating advanced inspection technologies, digital reporting, and predictive maintenance models. This will enable clients to proactively manage risk, optimise lifecycle costs, and make more informed investment decisions. Additionally, continued innovation in lining systems and environmental controls will further improve performance, sustainability, and compliance. Our focus is on leading this shift by delivering smarter, more integrated solutions that align with both operational and environmental objectives.
