Zululand Energy Terminal (ZET) has entered into a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with ExxonMobil South Africa LNG as part of efforts to develop South Africa’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility at Richards Bay Port.
The terminal project, a partnership between Vopak Terminal Durban and Transnet Pipelines, is intended to provide LNG importation, storage, regasification, and distribution services for industrial customers and power producers. The agreement demonstrates growing international interest in supplying LNG to the South African market and supports the ongoing expansion of gas-import infrastructure in the country.
According to Andrew Barry, Chairman of ExxonMobil LNG Market Development Inc., the agreement highlights ExxonMobil’s expertise in the global LNG sector and its commitment to contributing to South Africa’s energy security through dependable LNG supply. He noted that increasing global LNG demand presents an opportunity to support the country’s future energy requirements and expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with ZET on the project.
