Peninsula and Evos have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop dedicated marine biofuel storage infrastructure at Evos’ terminal in the Port of Algeciras. The proposed project would add up to 60,000 m³ of storage capacity, fully allocated to Peninsula, strengthening its ability to supply and manage biofuels across the region.

Situated on the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, the expansion would provide dedicated facilities for the storage, handling and blending of lower-carbon marine fuels. This would allow Peninsula to manage fuel quality and adapt biofuel blends to changing customer and regulatory requirements.

The initiative responds to increasing demand for lower-carbon shipping solutions, driven by measures including FuelEU Maritime and the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). It also aims to reinforce Algeciras’ position as a key bunkering and trading hub while supporting the wider transition towards cleaner marine fuels.
