Kyle Hignite from HMT Tank wins Forty under 40 award

We caught up with Kyle Hignite from HMT Tank who’s already making waves with bold ideas and practical solutions. From driving innovation in a traditionally slow – moving sector to inspiring the next generation of talent, they share their biggest challenges, ambitions for the future, and advice for those just starting out. Here’s what they had to say:

  1. Why do you think celebrating young talent in the industry is important Our industry has experienced a significant number of retirements recently and is expected to see more in next couple of years. By celebrating the emerging talent within the industry is crucial for fostering confidence. As regulations become increasingly stringent, it is essential to assure customers that their suppliers are well-equipped to educate them and ensure their assets remain in compliance.

  2. What has been your biggest challenge to date?
One of the most significant challenges I’ve encountered, and one that many companies in the industry are facing, is the difficulty in attracting and retaining young talent. This is particularly evident within the “blue-collar” workforce, where individuals are required to travel for extended periods, often weeks or months, moving from one project to the next.

  3. What is your plan / goals for the future?
Continuing to strengthen existing relationships and nurture talent to cultivate the future leaders of our industry.

  4. What advice do you have to pass on to the next generation?
Approach your work with the objective of learning something new each day, and don’t hesitate to reach out to more experienced colleagues with questions. Additionally, I recommend prioritizing the expansion of your professional network, as it provides a broader support system for discussing challenges and seeking guidance throughout your career.
