Amanda de Bruine from UAB Online wins Forty under 40 award

We caught up with Amanda de Bruine from UAB-Online. From driving innovation in a traditionally slow – moving sector to inspiring the next generation of talent, they share their biggest challenges, ambitions for the future, and advice for those just starting out. Here’s what they had to say:

  1. Why do you think celebrating young talent in the industry is important Celebrating young talent is always important because it’s a fight to help energise the industry. When we recognise fresh perspectives or new ideas in in early stage, then we are able to continue to encourage innovation. It is great to give those people, or young talent, a voice.

  2. What has been your biggest challenge to date?
One of my biggest challenges I have faced has been working in a traditional conservative sector. Maritime logistics was occasionally met with a lot of resistance, but I believe no is just the beginning of a better conversation. That experience taught me the power of persistence and having empathy.

  3. What is your plan / goals for the future?
My biggest goal is to continue driving transformation, and using strategic vision, combined with practicalities, to create really user driven solutions. In the long term, I’m looking for a leadership role where I can maybe mentor, or inspire the next generations.

  4. What advice do you have to pass on to the next generation?
Don’t want for permission to innovate, and surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. I really believe that progress doesn’t always come in with big disruptive moves. Sometimes, it takes small, meaningful breakthroughs to make a huge change.
